Yes. The Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra and S24 FE all support eSIM in most markets. In several regions Samsung went further and sells the S24 as an eSIM-first device, where the SIM tray is either absent or expected to stay empty — which makes knowing how to install a profile less of a convenience and more of a requirement.
As with every Galaxy generation, the exception is regional: variants sold in mainland China and Hong Kong typically carry two physical nano-SIM slots and no eSIM. The check below takes 30 seconds and settles which one you are holding.

Samsung does not restrict eSIM by tier. The base S24 has exactly the same eSIM capability as the Ultra, and the later S24 FE keeps it as well. What differs is the region your unit was built for, and that difference is encoded in the model number.
1. Open Settings > Connections > SIM manager. An Add eSIM option means the phone has eSIM.
2. Or dial *#06#: if the pop-up shows an EID next to the IMEI, there is an eSIM inside.
3. Cross-check under Settings > About phone > Model number — the S24 family is SM-S921x, the S24+ SM-S926x, the S24 Ultra SM-S928x and the S24 FE SM-S721x. The trailing region letters are where eSIM support varies.

If you are upgrading, or deciding between a used S23 and a new S24 as a travel phone, these are the differences that actually affect connectivity:
· eSIM-first regions. Samsung leaned harder into eSIM with the S24 generation, and in several markets the phone is sold expecting eSIM to be your primary line rather than a secondary one. Practically, that means a smoother activation flow and better carrier support — and, in those markets, no fallback to a plastic SIM.
· Dual-eSIM handling. Support for two eSIM profiles active at once is broader on the S24 family than it was at the S23's launch, though it still depends on region and software build. The definitive test on your own device: install one profile, then see whether SIM manager still offers Add eSIM.
· eSIM transfer between Galaxy phones. Newer One UI builds can move an eSIM line from an old Galaxy to a new one during setup, subject to carrier support. Handy for your home line at upgrade time; note that most travel eSIM profiles are bound to the device they were installed on and will not transfer.
· Longer software support. The S24 generation ships with a long update commitment, which matters more than it sounds: eSIM reliability improves with One UI updates, and an up-to-date phone fails less often at install time.

Install at home, over Wi-Fi. Downloading the profile requires a connection; the plan itself normally starts counting when the eSIM first attaches to a network at your destination, so being early costs nothing — see Can I install my eSIM before my trip? 4. Settings > Connections > SIM manager.
5. Tap Add eSIM.
6. Scan QR code from service provider — point the camera at the code in your order email, displayed on a laptop or second phone.
7. No second screen? Choose Enter activation code and type the SM-DP+ address and activation code from the email. Identical result.
8. Confirm the download; the profile appears in SIM manager in seconds.
9. Rename it immediately — "Europe 10GB" beats "SIM 2" when you are switching lines in a hurry.
10. SIM manager > Preferred SIM > Mobile data → travel eSIM.
11. Calls and Text messages → home SIM (or home eSIM), so your usual number keeps behaving normally.
12. Settings > Connections > Mobile networks → home line → Data roaming OFF.
13. Same screen → travel eSIM → Data roaming ON. Counter-intuitive but necessary: a travel eSIM works by roaming onto partner networks.

On S24 variants that allow two active eSIMs, the arrangement is the same as any dual-SIM Galaxy: both lines register to a network, both can receive calls and texts, and one at a time carries data.
Three ways to switch the data line, fastest first:
14. Quick settings panel: swipe down twice, tap the mobile data tile and pick the line. Two taps, no menus — the one to learn before you travel.
15. SIM manager > Preferred SIM > Mobile data — the explicit route.
16. Turn a profile off entirely in SIM manager when a trip ends, so nothing attaches to it accidentally.
Why you might want two travel profiles live at once: a multi-country itinerary where a regional plan covers the journey and a local plan gives better coverage in one specific country — a Japan-then-Korea trip, for instance, using a regional Japan–Korea plan plus a local one. Switching between them becomes a two-tap decision instead of a reinstall.
One Samsung setting to consider deliberately: any option that lets calls or data fall back to the other SIM when one loses signal. Convenient at home, potentially a roaming charge abroad. Turn it off for the trip.
If SIM manager has no Add eSIM entry and *#06# shows no EID, your S24 is one of the dual-physical-SIM regional builds — most commonly a mainland China or Hong Kong unit, including grey-market imports sold at attractive prices elsewhere. No update or carrier request adds eSIM to that hardware.
Your options in that case are a local physical SIM on arrival (see the cost comparison in eSIM vs local physical SIM), home-carrier roaming (usually the most expensive route — numbers here), or installing the travel eSIM on a second device and sharing by hotspot. The other blocker, worth ruling out before you blame the region: a carrier lock. A locked S24 installs a profile and then never registers on a network. Check with your operator and read Carrier lock: how to check and unlock your device.
The configuration most travelers want on an S24:
· Home line (physical SIM or eSIM): on, data roaming off. Calls, SMS and bank OTPs still arrive.
· Travel eSIM: on, set as the mobile data line, data roaming on.
· Apps: unchanged. WhatsApp, Zalo, Messenger, Maps, Grab and banking apps all run over whichever line carries data.

A typical travel day — maps, messaging, rideshare, translation, social media and a few video calls — consumes 500MB to 1.5GB. The S24 Ultra's high-resolution photos change that quickly if backup runs over cellular: set photo sync to Wi-Fi only before you fly.
