Why does my eSIM plan say TikTok or ChatGPT is not supported?

This is not a Gohub limitation - it's due to internet restrictions enforced by certain countries, most commonly China's Great Firewall. These restrictions block international platforms like TikTok (international version), ChatGPT, Google, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook at the network level, regardless of which eSIM or carrier you use.

Some Gohub plans - particularly those designed for China - route your connection through international servers, which can increase the chances of accessing these apps. However, access is never fully guaranteed due to the nature of these restrictions.

To maximize your chances of using TikTok in China:

  • Before your flight: log out of TikTok, turn off location services for the app, and make sure the app is updated
  • After arrival: use mobile data from your eSIM instead of local Wi-Fi - local Wi-Fi networks are subject to the same restrictions
  • If TikTok still doesn't work: delete and reinstall the app, or try logging in via a web browser first
