Is my phone too old to support eSIM?
It depends on the model, not just the age. eSIM support was introduced at different times across different brands, so the cutoff point varies.
General guidelines by brand:
- Apple: iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR (2018) were the first iPhones to support eSIM. Anything older - iPhone X, iPhone 8, or earlier - does not support eSIM
- Samsung: eSIM support started around the Galaxy S20 series (2020) for most models, though some foldable and flagship models from earlier also support it
- Google Pixel: eSIM has been supported since the Pixel 2 (for devices purchased through Google Fi), and more broadly from Pixel 3 onwards
- Other Android brands: eSIM adoption came later - most models before 2020 do not support it
The simplest way to check:
Don't rely on the year alone. The fastest way is to check your phone's settings directly.

💡 If your current phone doesn't support eSIM, a Gohub eSIM unfortunately won't work on it. You may want to consider using a portable Wi-Fi device as an alternative for your trip.
