Is the network signal weaker with an eSIM than a physical SIM?

No - an eSIM connects to mobile networks the exact same way a physical SIM does. The technology behind the connection is identical; the only difference is that the SIM chip is embedded in your device instead of being a removable card. From the network's perspective, it cannot tell the difference between an eSIM and a physical SIM.

So what actually affects your signal strength?

Signal quality has nothing to do with the type of SIM you're using. What actually matters is:

  • Network coverage - every carrier has its own coverage map. If you're in a remote area or inside a building with thick walls, signal may be weaker regardless of SIM type
  • The local carrier your eSIM is connected to - Gohub partners with local carriers in each destination to provide the best available coverage. The quality of that carrier's network in your specific location determines your signal
  • Your device's hardware and antenna - different phone models have different antenna quality, which can affect reception in low-signal areas
  • Network congestion - in crowded areas like airports, stadiums, or city centers, all users on the same network share bandwidth, which can slow speeds temporarily
What if my signal feels weak while using a Gohub eSIM?

If you notice weaker signal than expected, it's almost always a coverage or carrier issue rather than the eSIM itself. A few things to try:

  • Make sure your eSIM is set as the active data line in your phone's settings
  • Check that Data Roaming is turned on for your eSIM line
  • Move to an open area or higher ground to improve reception
  • If the issue persists, contact Gohub support via WhatsApp - our team can check the carrier coverage for your specific location and help troubleshoot

The bottom line: eSIM and physical SIM deliver identical network quality. Switching to an eSIM won't cost you any signal strength - and in some cases, Gohub's local carrier partnerships may actually give you better coverage than a roaming connection from your home carrier.
