Regrouping Between the Pilz Bar and Rompa's Reggae Shack Before the Last Lift

Snowbombing moves people up and down the Penken every day, and a group spread across its terraces runs most of its logistics on a phone. Your e-ticket arrives by email, the RFID wristband that pays for every drink at official venues is topped up through an online Cashless account, and lift passes, lessons and brunch tickets sit in the Customer Dashboard 2. Then there is the clock: mountain venues on the Penken close at 4pm, the last lift down to Mayrhofen leaves at 4:30pm, and town venues are already running from 3pm 2.

A group that splits between the Pilz Bar terrace at 1,800 m and Rompa's Reggae Shack at 2,000 m has to agree where and when to meet before that last lift 6. Later, the Night Shuttle to Hippach and Ramsau runs every 30 minutes, and the official taxis display their rates 2. Losing data on Snowbombing week does not mean missing one DJ; it means missing the lift, the shuttle or a wristband top-up at the exact moment you need it.

Swapping the Emailed E-Ticket for Snowbombing's Full-Week Wristband

E-tickets are swapped for wristbands only on production of the booking reference and photo ID 2. Tickets arrive by email, so the reference needs to load on your phone in the queue, not in a hotel room on the other side of the Ziller river.

Catching the Half-Hourly Night Shuttle to Hippach

Guests staying in Hippach or Ramsau rely on the Night Shuttle, which runs every 30 minutes into the early hours after the ski bus stops at 5:30pm 2. Checking the next departure, or finding an official Snowbombing taxi with its sticker and displayed rates, is a live-data task at 2am 2.

Finding Your Group After the Forest Stage Lasers Stop

The Forest Stage sits in a clearing of fir trees at the foot of the mountains, away from the cobbled centre 5. When a headline set ends and the crowd heads back toward the Street Party or the Vault, a shared live location is the quickest way to regroup in the dark.

Why the 27th Edition Sits on the Penken's Spring-Snow Week, 5 to 10 April 2027

Snowbombing 2027 runs from Monday 5 to Saturday 10 April 2027 in Mayrhofen, in Austria's Zillertal valley, and it is the festival's 27th edition 1 2. The organiser recommends arriving on Sunday 4 April and leaving on Sunday 11 April 2027 to catch the opening parties and add extra ski days 2. The Mayrhofen tourist board lists the same window on its own Snowbombing page 9.

The date is not tied to Easter or a public holiday. The festival sits in early April because that is the tail of the spring-skiing season, when the upper Penken still holds snow while the valley floor warms up 7. For comparison, Snowbombing 2026 ran from Monday 6 to Saturday 11 April 2026 10 11. Both the 2026 and 2027 editions follow the same Monday-to-Saturday rhythm, with arrivals over the weekend before.

How the week is laid out:

  • Sunday 4 April: recommended arrival day and opening parties 2

  • Monday 5 to Saturday 10 April: core festival, mountain venues 12pm to 4pm, town venues from 3pm until the early hours 2

  • Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 April: return airport transfers 2

Snowbombing began as an après-ski club promotion at Risoul in France, moved through Villars in Switzerland and Les Arcs in France, and settled in Mayrhofen in 2005 13. That long residency explains why the village treats the week as part of its calendar. The organiser describes performances in hotel bars, on the cobbled streets and even in a local butcher's shop 7.

The Wikipedia entry for the festival lists a capacity of 7,000 people 13. That is small next to summer festivals, but it is a lot for a village of about 3,900 residents, which is why Mayrhofen feels taken over for the week 14.

Tip: Airport transfers run only on 3 to 5 April 2027 for arrivals and 10 to 11 April 2027 for departures, so book flights inside those windows 2.

Why Every Snowbombing Wristband Comes Bundled With at Least 5 Nights

There is no standalone or day ticket for Snowbombing: every booking bundles at least 5 nights of accommodation with a full-week festival wristband, and the wristband element is valued at £249 (November 2026) 2 3. Packages on the official booking page start at £399 per person for valley apartments and reach £1,139 per person for central apartments (November 2026) 3.

Payment runs on a deposit plan. A £50 per person deposit secures the booking and the balance is due by 1 March 2027; each traveller can split it into monthly direct debits or pay as they go, with at least £200 paid by 1 December and £350 by 1 February 2. After the lead booker pays the deposits, every group member manages their own account 3.

What the wristband does and does not include:

  • Entry to all announced Snowbombing venues, parties and events 2

  • Not included: Mountaintop Brunch, Bongo's Bingo and Snowbombing Wellness sessions, which are ticketed separately 2

  • VIP upgrade: £100, with fast-track wristband collection, priority entry to headline venues and VIP bars (November 2026) 2

  • Lift passes: £199 (3 days) to £349 (7 days), or a £149 Mountain Pass (November 2026) 4

Tickets are sold only through the official ticketing agent named on the Snowbombing FAQ page, and anything bought elsewhere is void 2. They are non-transferable except through the official name change, made at least 28 days before the event with a £30 amendment fee 2. Refunds apply only if the event is cancelled before it starts, or where the law requires 2.

Groups of 8 or more get £500 off central hotels and apartments, and a booker who brings 15 people gets free accommodation, lift pass, equipment hire and airport transfer (November 2026) 3. Mayrhofen residents and seasonal workers can buy wristbands at the tourist board office in the Europahaus, with eligibility strictly checked 2.

Tip: Returning Snowbombers who attended more than once in the past 10 years qualify for loyalty offers when booking by 1 December 2026 3.

The Jenbach Change Onto the Zillertalbahn for the Final Leg to Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen sits at the head of the Zillertal at 47.167 N, 11.867 E, at the end of the Zillertalbahn line from Jenbach 14. The organiser recommends flying into Innsbruck or Munich; official Snowbombing transfers take about 1.5 hours from Innsbruck and 2.5 hours from Munich 4.

Transfers run in time slots matched to published flight times and combine routes to keep prices low, so expect some waiting on arrival and on the way back 2. Arrival transfers run 3 to 5 April 2027 and return transfers 10 to 11 April 2027, booked through the Customer Dashboard 2. If a flight is delayed, the organiser tries to place travellers on the next transfer but does not guarantee it 2.

By rail, Jenbach on the Inn valley main line is the hub. Almost all international trains stop there, and Zillertal public transport runs every half hour from Jenbach to Mayrhofen by Zillertalbahn train or bus 15 19. Munich has seven Eurocity trains a day to Innsbruck 15. The digital Zillertal guest card works as a free Zillertalbahn ticket between Jenbach and the valley from 4 December 2026 until 11 April 2027, which covers the whole festival week 15.

Other ways in:

  • UK coach: leaves selected UK cities on the morning of Saturday 3 April and reaches the resort on Sunday 4 April; return coaches leave on Saturday 10 April 2

  • Coach luggage: one soft bag up to 50 x 50 x 100 cm plus hand luggage, with skis and boards bought in advance as excess 2

  • Car: parking is limited across the resort, so confirm a space with the accommodation first 2

Once in Mayrhofen, a ski bus runs every 30 minutes until 5:30pm, linking the village with Hippach and Ramsau, and a Night Shuttle covers the same route every 30 minutes into the early hours 2. Official Snowbombing taxis carry stickers and display their rates 2. No alcohol, smoking or drugs are allowed on the UK coaches, and drivers can remove passengers who ignore the rule 2.

Tip: Avoid booking lessons, hire or brunches on arrival or departure days; extras missed because of delayed travel are not refunded 2.

From Penken Terrace Sets to the Forest Stage After Dark

A Snowbombing day splits in two: mountain venues on the Penken run from 12pm to 4pm, the last lift down leaves at 4:30pm, and town venues take over from 3pm until the early hours 2. A lift pass or Mountain Pass is needed for the mountain stages, but nobody has to ski to reach them 2.

The Penkenbahn gondola climbs from its valley station at 655 m to 1,790 m in just over eight minutes 17. The venues around the top:

  • Corona Sunsets at the Pilz Bar, 1,800 m on the Penken, with DJ sets on a sun terrace 6

  • Rompa's Reggae Shack, 2,000 m, for dub, reggae, jungle and bass 6

  • Mountaintop Brunch, 1,800 m, ticketed, with Austrian food and two drinks 2 6

  • Penken Park, 2,100 m on the Horberg, home of the pro freestyle competition 6

Back in Mayrhofen at 630 m, the 2027 headline venues are the Forest Stage in a clearing of fir trees at the foot of the mountains, the open-air Street Party in the town centre, and the Racket Club, with CO2 cannons and a licence until the early hours 5 6. The Fun Haus runs interactive shows, the Vault keeps going after the others close, and Hans the Butcher hosts pop-up parties announced only once guests are in town 5.

The Snowbombing 2027 lineup has Bicep performing live and Fatboy Slim at the top, with Andy C, Basement Jaxx (DJ set), 2manydjs, Groove Armada (DJ set), Skream, Wilkinson, Erol Alkan and Jayda G among the announced names 8 12.

Daytime extras run alongside the music: Boardercross races, a Pond Skim, Ravers2Runners hikes and 5 km runs, and tandem paragliding 6. Chairlift Speed-Dating, the Snolympics and comedy shows fill the gaps between sets 2. The Wellness Oasis on the Penken Terrace adds hot tubs, yoga and pilates at altitude 6 20.

Tip: Book Mountaintop Brunch as soon as it opens; the organiser warns that brunches sell out fast 2.

Valley Warmth Versus the Penken Top Station in Early April

Early April in Mayrhofen is spring weather: long-term ZAMG climate averages for April give a mean daily maximum of 14.1 °C and a mean daily minimum of 3.3 °C in the village 14. The same table records 74.0 mm of precipitation on about 10.6 days, 124.1 hours of sunshine and 4.5 cm of new snow for the month 14. Tyrol's tourism board notes that snow on the mountains melts progressively as spring moves toward May, so the upper slopes keep cover longer than the valley 16.

Those figures explain the festival's timing. The organiser chose early April for peak spring skiing, when Mayrhofen's south-facing terraces fill with afternoon sun and regulars talk about the “goggle tan” 7. The Penken top station at 1,790 m sits more than 1,100 m above the village, so the mountain is markedly colder than the street below 17.

What that means for planning:

  • Ski in the morning, before spring snow turns soft in the afternoon sun

  • Expect at least one wet or snowy day, given about 10.6 precipitation days in April 14

  • Carry layers for the 4:30pm lift down, when terrace sun gives way to valley shade 2

  • Bring sunscreen; the organiser tells guests to pack SPF with the salopettes 7

The busiest moments of the week are predictable: Sunday arrivals, the 12pm to 4pm mountain window when terraces fill, and the Street Party, which brings together thousands of Snowbombers, artists and local residents in the town centre 2 5. Arrive at the Penkenbahn before noon to avoid the lift queue that builds as the mountain venues open.

Tip: Equipment hire shops rarely stock boots above UK size 12, so larger feet should bring their own boots 2.

Central Mayrhofen Hotels Versus Night Shuttle Apartments in Hippach and Ramsau

Where you sleep at Snowbombing is decided at booking, because accommodation is part of every package 3. The official booking page groups options into luxury central hotels, budget-friendly hotels, and chalets with group apartments, priced from £399 per person for valley apartments up to £1,139 per person (November 2026) 3.

The main trade-offs:

  • Central Mayrhofen: many listed hotels are a 10 to 14 minute walk from the lift, close to the Street Party and the Racket Club 3 5

  • Edge of town and valley villages: cheaper, listed as a 10 to 20 minute shuttle ride to the lift 3

  • Hippach and Ramsau: on the ski bus and Night Shuttle route, both every 30 minutes 2

For a Snowbombing week in Mayrhofen, the central option buys time: walking back to a room between the 4:30pm last lift and the evening sets is easier than waiting for a bus in ski boots 2. Valley apartments suit groups who cook breakfast and do not mind the Night Shuttle.

Apartments include towels and bed linen, compact kitchenettes with 2 to 3 hobs and a cleaning fee, and guests usually make their own beds on arrival 2. Many properties take a deposit of about €50 per person or €200 to €300 per apartment, refunded after check-out minus damage or extra cleaning 2. Check-in runs 15:00 to 23:00 and check-out 10:00 to 11:00, but these are guidelines to confirm with the property 2.

Double rooms are often sold as an “Austrian twin”: one large base with two mattresses and two quilts 2. Room requests cannot be guaranteed 2. The homepage flags packages as selling fast, so book early 1.

Tip: Solo travellers can book a whole room for themselves; there is no dedicated solo package, but the Holidays Team handles bespoke requests on WhatsApp 2.

From the Penken to the Europahaus: Keeping the Euro Wristband Topped Up

Snowbombing runs on a cashless RFID wristband, so your phone becomes the wallet: the chip is preloaded with euros through an online Cashless account, and most official venues accept nothing else 2. A few on-mountain venues and unaffiliated Mayrhofen bars do not take Cashless, so carry a card or cash as backup 2.

Tasks during Snowbombing week in Mayrhofen that depend on mobile data:

  • Showing the e-ticket and booking reference at wristband collection 2

  • Topping up the wristband online, or finding the card Top-Up Points around the venues 2

  • Blocking a lost wristband, which only works if it is linked to a Cashless account or you have the 6-digit code from the back 2

  • Adding lift passes, lessons and equipment hire through the Customer Dashboard 2 4

  • Following lineup drops and weather reports from the organiser 1

Top-ups from a pound card are converted at your bank's rate, since the Cashless account runs in euros 2. Cash top-ups are taken at the Europahaus, which helps if a card is blocked abroad 2.

Shared Wi-Fi is not a plan when thousands leave the Street Party at once, and hotel Wi-Fi does not follow you up the Penkenbahn to 1,790 m 5 17. Menus and signs in Tyrolean Gasthöfe are often in German only, so a translation app saves time at dinner. Coverage details for an Austrian data plan are on the Austria eSIM page.

Tip: Set up the Cashless account before travelling and photograph the 6-digit code on the back of the wristband as soon as you receive it 2.

Why the 4:30pm Last Penken Lift Is Snowbombing's Main Safety Rule

The 4:30pm last lift down is the safety rule that matters most at Snowbombing: mountain venues close at 4pm, and anyone who misses the lift is left on the Penken after the music stops 2. Skiing down after an afternoon of terrace drinks is where accidents happen.

The Penken also holds the Harakiri, described by the organiser as Austria's steepest slope with a 78% gradient 6 14. It is not a run to attempt after the Pilz Bar.

Emergency numbers in Austria, free from any phone 18:

  • 112: European emergency number

  • 140: mountain rescue

  • 144: ambulance

  • 133: police

Travel insurance with winter sports, medical and repatriation cover is a condition of booking, and a UK GHIC or existing EHIC is recommended 2. Lost property goes to the Europahaus; get a police report for any insurance claim 2.

House rules at the venues are strict. Smoking is allowed only in designated areas, outside food and drink and glass bottles are banned, and professional cameras, tripods and video gear are not permitted 2. Alcohol is served only to over-18s, and anyone who looks 25 or younger may be asked for ID 2. The event is filmed, and police and security may record for safety 2.

Mayrhofen is a working Tyrolean village of about 3,900 people, not a purpose-built resort 14. Residents join the Street Party, so treat the streets, guesthouses and the Ziller river banks as someone's home 5 7.

Tip: Agree a meeting point at the Penkenbahn valley station before going up, so a missed lift or flat phone does not split the group 17.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The organiser says a lift pass or Mountain Pass is needed for the mountain venues, but you do not have to ski or snowboard to reach them. The Mountain Pass costs £149 per person, against £199 to £349 for 3 to 7 day lift passes (November 2026) 2 4. The Penkenbahn carries foot passengers up to 1,790 m 17.

Wristbands are issued only to the ticket holder, who must show the booking reference and photographic ID such as a passport or driving licence 2. The festival is strictly 18+, with no exceptions for under-18s accompanied by a guardian, and bar staff may ask anyone who looks 25 or younger for ID 2.

Yes. Wristbands for local residents are sold through the Mayrhofen tourist board office in the Europahaus, and eligibility is strictly checked with the correct identification 2. Visitors from outside the valley cannot buy a day wristband; they must book a full-week wristband with at least 5 nights of accommodation 2.

The organiser can block a lost wristband and move the balance to a new one, but only if the wristband is linked to a Cashless account or you have the 6-digit code from its back 2. Without either, the money on the chip is gone, so register the account before arriving in Mayrhofen.

No. The £100 VIP upgrade gives early access to book high-demand extras such as Mountaintop Brunch and Bongo's Bingo, plus fast-track wristband collection, priority entry to headline venues and VIP bars (November 2026) 2 4. The brunch itself is a separate ticket with Austrian food and two drinks 2.

Only someone known personally to the original ticket holder, through the official process. The lead booker must notify the organiser at least 28 days before the event and pay a £30 amendment fee 2. Tickets bought from any other seller are void and can be cancelled without refund 2.
