Phone Signal at the Real Is Part of the Plan

The Real de la Feria is a temporary town of more than a thousand casetas 9, laid out on a grid of streets named after bullfighters and built on the Los Remedios side of Seville. Each caseta has its own number, and a paper map is not enough once the alleys fill with several hundred thousand people. A guide to the fair warns that mobile coverage at the Real is often saturated 8. That matters because the fair works on small arrangements: a friend who says the family caseta is on a corner of Calle Pascual Márquez, a lunch invitation that needs a pin sent at the last minute, a return taxi that has to be called from a doorway. Losing the connection at midnight under the portada means losing the group for an hour, so a roaming plan sorted before landing, such as a Spain eSIM, keeps the week simple.

Meeting Friends Under the Portada

The portada, the giant lit gateway, is the obvious meeting point and therefore the worst one. A hotel guide to the fair advises agreeing meeting points in advance because the portada is usually very busy 10. A shared live location in a messaging app lets a group split between public casetas and regroup at the street corner of a caseta number instead.

Calling the Return Ride at 3 a.m.

The lights go off at 4:00 1, and by then the buses and taxis around Avenida de Adolfo Suárez and the Contraportada are in demand. Checking the Tranvibus TB1 or Tussam night operation on a live map is faster than queueing blind 11.

Paying for Rebujito Round by Round

Many casetas pass a bottle of manzanilla around and settle later, and the Calle del Infierno funfair takes small payments at stalls. Having a bank card app and a banking verification code arrive without delay is worth more than a pocket of coins.

When Is Feria de Abril in 2027?

Feria de Abril 2027 is expected to start with the alumbrao at midnight on the night of Monday 12 to Tuesday 13 April and to finish on Sunday 18 April 2027, six days in all 1 2. The City Council of Seville has not yet confirmed the final dates, and one travel site places the start a day earlier, at midnight on Monday 12 April 3.

The reason the date moves is Holy Week. The Feria is tied to Semana Santa and falls about two weeks after it 1. Easter Sunday in 2027 is 28 March, so the Feria lands two weeks later, in mid-April. In 2026 Holy Week ended on 5 April and the fair ran from Tuesday 21 to Sunday 26 April 2026 1 9. In 2026 the Pescaíto dinner was on Monday 20 April, the alumbrado at 00:00 on Tuesday 21 April and the closing fireworks on Sunday 26 April 9.

Day by day, the fair follows a pattern that changes little from year to year:

  • Monday: the Noche del Pescaíto, a fried fish dinner in the casetas, followed by the alumbrao at midnight 1.

  • Tuesday: the first full day, with business and friends' lunches in the casetas 1.

  • Wednesday: a local holiday in 2026 and the day with the most horses and carriages 1 9.

  • Thursday and Friday: busier evenings as visitors from nearby towns arrive 1.

  • Saturday and Sunday: quieter in the afternoon, with the closing fireworks over the river 1 7.

Tip: Until the council publishes the calendar, book only cancellable rooms and trains. The Feria dates are fixed by the Easter calendar, so the weekday pattern (Monday night alumbrao, Sunday finale) stays the same even if the calendar day shifts by one.

Note that the expected 2027 programme is also affected by building work. The Seville mayor has said that the planned enlargement of the fairground, with up to 220 new casetas, cannot be finished in time for 2027, so the 2027 edition is expected to run on the existing layout with works continuing nearby 6.

Can You Enter a Private Caseta Without a Member?

There is no ticket for the Feria de Abril itself: walking the Real de la Feria in Los Remedios is free, and the choice that matters is which caseta you can enter 7. Most of the more than a thousand casetas are private, run by families, associations or clubs, and entry is by invitation from a member or acquaintance 7 9.

Public casetas are free to enter. They belong to city districts, political parties and unions, and information points around the Real show where they are 7 8. First-time visitors usually find them the easier route, and a hotel guide recommends them for anyone without access to private ones 10.

Here is how people actually get inside:

  1. Know a member. A friend or a colleague in Seville who is a caseta socio can add you to the guest list. Members pay an annual fee for the space during the week 8, so a guest is expected to pitch in for drinks.
  2. Use a public caseta. Look for the district and party names on the fascia and walk in, with no list.
  3. Ask the information points. Staff at the entrance and inside the Real can say which casetas are open to the public 7.
  4. Book a visitor caseta. Some casetas organised for visitors take reservations, so check ahead.

Note: A private caseta is a private club. Doormen turn people away on the busiest nights, and arriving in a large group without a host rarely works.

Bullfights are the only part of the fair week that needs a real ticket. Corridas run in the Plaza de la Maestranza every afternoon, and tickets can be bought in advance by phone or on the plaza's website 7. Book well ahead, because the Feria afternoons are among the strongest of the season 1.

How Do You Reach the Real de la Feria in Los Remedios?

The best way to reach the Real de la Feria is by public transport, because driving is difficult and parking near Los Remedios is scarce 10. For Feria de Abril 2027 the exact mobility plan will be published by the city council closer to the date, and the 2026 plan is the best guide to what to expect 4.

From Madrid, the fastest AVE trains take about 2 hours 30 minutes to Seville Santa Justa, over a route of roughly 390 km 13. Typical listed times are a little longer. From Santa Justa you reach the centre by bus or taxi and then the Real by metro or bus.

In 2026 the main ways to the fairground were 4 5 11:

  • The Tranvibus TB1, a tram-bus, extended to the Real, running every 6 to 8 minutes from 12:00 until the early morning during the 2026 fair 11.Tussam lines C1, C2, 5, 6 and 41 were rerouted through Los Remedios to stop on Avenida de Adolfo Suárez in 2026 11.The Lanzadera Prado-Feria, a special shuttle, offered about 1.6 million seats in 2026 11.The Metro ran without interruption all week, with double trains and capacity more than 120 percent above normal in 2026 5.Taxis had official ranks at the Portada and Contraportada, with a supplement on urban tariffs 2 and 3 between 23:00 and 7:00 under an earlier Andalusian resolution in 2026 14.Many visitors walk the last stretch across the Guadalquivir from Triana or from the Prado de San Sebastián, which also avoids the queues after midnight.

Tip: Leave the fair before the closing rush, around 3:00, or wait until the lights go off at 4:00 and take the first buses 1. A taxi booked from the official Portada rank is the simplest late option.

The Feria de Abril 2027 in Los Remedios is a short ride from the city centre, so there is no need to stay near the Real itself.

How Does a Feria Day Run From the Paseo de Caballos to Dawn?

A Feria day starts at lunchtime and runs until the lights go off at 4:00 1. Horses and carriages circulate only between 12:00 and 20:00, and they are the only vehicles allowed inside the fairground apart from ambulances and police cars 1.

The Paseo de Caballos follows a circular route along Alfonso de Borbón y Orléans, Juan Belmonte, Curro Romero, Ignacio Sánchez Mejías, Rafael Gómez Ortega and Joselito El Gallo 1. The tradition dates from the 1850s, when the fair was a livestock market and breeders arrived by carriage 1. Drivers and passengers dress in gala clothing, and visitors can rent a calesa with a driver 7.

A typical day looks like this:

  1. Midday: walk the streets while the carriages pass, and choose a public caseta for the first rebujito.

  2. Afternoon: lunch inside a caseta, then sevillanas, which start in the casetas and often spill into the street 7.

  3. Late afternoon: bullfights in the Maestranza, for those with tickets, before the night shift begins 7.

  4. Evening: the Calle del Infierno funfair, with rides and food stalls beside the Real 7.

  5. Night: dancing and singing in the casetas until the lights go off.

Opening and closing are the set pieces. At midnight on the first night the mayor switches on the portada and the streets of the Real, and viewers gather at the corner of Avenida de Adolfo Suárez and Calle Asunción, or in the less crowded Calle Alfonso de Borbón y Orléans, from where both Joselito El Gallo and Juan Belmonte can be watched lighting up 1. The portada is around 40 metres high and wide 5.

The fair closes with fireworks fired from the Guadalquivir dock near the Paseo de las Delicias 1. Good places to watch are the Puente de los Remedios, the Puente de San Telmo and the Torre del Oro riverside, and arriving 30 to 45 minutes early is advised at the busiest bridge 1.

Tip: Stay on the pavements while the carriages pass, since the road is theirs 1.

What Is Seville Weather Like in the Middle of April?

Seville in April is warm but changeable, with an average high of 23.4 C and an average low of 11.1 C at the airport station in the 1981 to 2010 climate normals 12. Monthly rainfall averages 54 mm with about 6 days of rain, which means one or two showery days are possible during a six-day fair 12.

The ground at the Real is albero, a packed sandy clay, which turns to mud in a downpour and kicks up dust in a dry spell. Women often wear esparto wedge shoes for it 15, and anyone else should choose comfortable closed shoes.

Crowds follow the weekdays:

  • Tuesday: the first full day, busy from the start 1.
  • Wednesday: the fullest day when it is a holiday, with more horses and carriages 1 9.
  • Thursday: visitor numbers climb 1.
  • Friday: generally the second busiest 1.
  • Saturday: quieter in the Real, while the fireworks draw people to the river 1.

A weekday afternoon is the best moment for a first visit, because locals come after work and children are at school on Monday and Tuesday 1. Hotel occupancy in the city reached 83 percent in the 2026 Feria week, so the whole city feels full 5.

Tip: Carry a light jacket. After the sun goes down the albero cools quickly, and the lights go on only at night.

On a hot afternoon the main danger is the rebujito. Guides warn that it is easy to drink too much in the heat 8, so alternate with water and eat as you go.

Which Seville Neighbourhood Works Best for Feria Week?

The best base for the Feria de Abril in Seville is the historic centre or Triana, because both are a short bus, taxi or walking trip from the Real de la Feria in Los Remedios. Rooms around the fairground are limited, and Seville's hotel occupancy reached 83 percent during the 2026 Feria week, so rooms for mid-April go early 5.

Here are the areas to consider:

  • Triana: across the river from the centre, with a short walk to the Puente de los Remedios and the fireworks views. Boutique hotels there advertise fair-week stays 10.
  • The historic centre: within reach of the Cathedral, the Alcázar and the Santa Cruz quarter. Good for people who want the sights by day and the Feria by night.
  • Los Remedios: nearest to the Real, with walking access, but busy with traffic and closures.
  • Santa Justa area: useful for arrivals by AVE, with fast links to the centre.

Book as soon as the dates are confirmed. Choose a free-cancellation rate, since the council has not yet confirmed 2027 and hotel prices change with the fair 1.

Tip: A room within a 20-minute walk of the river avoids the surge in taxi demand at 3:00 and 4:00, and walking back across the bridges is safe and well lit when the crowds are there.

If rooms in Seville are exhausted, towns on the AVE or commuter lines are a fallback, but remember the lights go off at 4:00 and services thin out afterwards.

Will Your Phone Work Around the Portada at Midnight?

Phone signal around the portada at the midnight alumbrao is the weak point of any Feria plan, and a local guide warns that coverage at the Real tends to saturate 8. Large crowds share the same cells, so photos and live video can fail exactly when the lights come on.For the 2027 Feria de Abril in Seville, a few habits help:

  • Install an eSIM before landing. A Spain eSIM installed at home activates on arrival at Santa Justa or Seville airport, with no counter queue.

  • Download offline maps. The Real has numbered casetas and streets named after bullfighters, and a map saved offline works without signal 8.

  • Pick a fallback meeting point. Agree a street corner away from the portada, as hotel guides advise 10.

  • Save tickets. Bullfight tickets and train bookings should be saved as PDFs and screenshots.

  • Keep the battery up. A charged power bank matters on a day that ends after 4:00.

Airport Wi-Fi and hotel Wi-Fi are fine for planning, but the Real itself has no reliable public connection for a crowd of this size. Mobile data matters most for the return ride, since Tranvibus and Tussam services are checked live 11.

Tip: Send your live location to one friend before you enter the Real, then turn off video and photo uploads until you are out of the crowd.

What Do You Wear to the Feria, Traje de Flamenca or Not?

There is no official dress code for the Feria de Abril, but traje de flamenca for women and a jacket for men are the norm in the casetas 7 8. Men usually wear traditional country dress, or a shirt and jacket with an optional tie 7 8.

The classic flamenca look comes with its own rules. Hair is pulled back, flowers go on the head, large bags and sunglasses are avoided, and a shawl rests over the back 15. The dress is never worn on the Pescaíto night: it is reserved for the first official day, Tuesday in 2026, and the Saturday before the alumbrao it is considered very out of place 15 8.

Visitors without a dress have options:

  • Wear a flower and a shawl. A flower in the hair or a small shawl helps you blend in 8.
  • Smart casual. Linen trousers and a collared shirt for men, and a simple dress for women.
  • Rent or borrow. Suggested by style guides instead of buying a dress that may not fit the next year 15.

Tip: Choose shoes for sand. Esparto wedges or flat closed shoes cope with the albero better than heels.

Do not turn up in a costume. A bought "flamenco" outfit in synthetic fabric looks out of place among traditional trajes, so a plain smart outfit is better. Style guides add that the shawl can also be worn with outfits that are not flamenco at all, which suits visitors who want a nod to the fair without a full dress 15.

At the Feria de Abril in Seville, the dress is part of the choreography. Sevillanas are danced with the skirt, the shawl and the hands, so a visitor who wears the dress will be pulled into the dance floor more often than one in jeans. Anyone who prefers to watch can do so in comfort, as nobody is turned away from a public caseta for the clothes 8.

What Do You Drink and Eat Inside a Caseta?

The Feria drink is rebujito, manzanilla mixed with lemon-lime soda, and the classic bottle of manzanilla is served very cold in small glasses 8. Fino and manzanilla are the traditional wines of the fair, and rebujito is its signature drink 10.

On the table, a caseta typically serves:

  • Pescaíto frito: fried fish, the dish of the Pescaíto night 8.
  • Jamón ibérico: cut ham, with prawns from Huelva and carabineros as picks 8.
  • Montaditos de lomo: cheap pork-loin rolls that go well with rebujito 8.
  • Tortilla de patatas, croquetas, carrillada and chocos fritos: the home-style plates 8.
  • Salmorejo: a cold tomato soup, one of the typical fair dishes 10.
  • Buñuelos with chocolate or churros: the traditional end of the night 8 10.

In a private caseta, food and drink are usually handled by the members' kitchen, and guests contribute through the host. Public casetas sell by item, and the information points show where they are 8.

Tip: Eat before the third rebujito. A guide to the fair warns that it is easy to drink too much in the heat 8.

Many families have a fixed colour for their churros and buñuelos stall at the plazoleta de los buñuelos 8, which gives a sweet stop when the sevillanas get too fast.

For the Feria de Abril in Seville, order the way locals do. Ask for the manzanilla by the bottle if the group is four or more, and keep a jug of rebujito for the dance floor. Water is not on the traditional menu, so ask for it at the start rather than at the end of the night. A first-time visitor in a public caseta can simply point at the montaditos and the tortilla, and add the jamón and the prawns once the group has settled in 8.

Frequently asked questions

Wednesday has been a local holiday in Seville during recent editions, and in 2026 it was 22 April 9. The holiday makes it the busiest day, with more horses and carriages 1. For 2027 the local holiday calendar is set by the city, so confirm it once the Feria dates are published.

No. The Pescaíto night, the Monday dinner before the midnight alumbrao, is traditionally dressed in ordinary smart clothes, and the traje de flamenca is kept for the first official day 15 8. Wearing one on the Pescaíto night marks you as a newcomer, so save the dress for Tuesday.

The fireworks are fired from the Guadalquivir dock near the Paseo de las Delicias 1. The Puente de los Remedios has one of the best views but is packed, so arrive 30 to 45 minutes early. The Puente de San Telmo, the Puente de Triana, the Muelle de la Sal and the Torre del Oro are alternatives 1.

A supplement applied to urban tariffs 2 and 3 for journeys starting at the official Portada and Contraportada ranks between 23:00 and 7:00, under an Andalusian resolution, and one tariff 3 figure was 4.22 EUR from the Portada between 0:00 and 6:00 14. Tariffs are reviewed regularly, so confirm the current amount with the driver.

Yes, but the Feria runs late, so a day trip means leaving the fair early. The fastest AVE trains take about 2 hours 30 minutes between Madrid and Seville Santa Justa 13, and the last departures to Madrid leave in the evening, long before the lights go off at 4:00 1. An overnight stay lets you enjoy the casetas properly.

Light use such as maps, messages and a few photos needs little data, while live video from the alumbrao or the fireworks uses far more. Because coverage at the Real tends to saturate 8, download maps and tickets beforehand, and install a Spain eSIM before travelling so the connection is ready when you land.
