What is mobile data usage?

Mobile data is the internet your phone uses when Wi-Fi isn't available.

Every time you check maps, scroll social media, message friends, or book a ride, your phone consumes mobile data through local networks. While traveling, mobile data becomes essential - because Wi-Fi isn't always nearby, reliable, or fast.

Understanding how you use data helps you pick a plan that fits your trip - without running out or overpaying.

How to calculate your data needs

You don't have to guess how much data you'll need for your trip.

Gohub helps you estimate your daily data usage based on how you actually use your phone - from navigation and messaging to social media, videos, or work calls.

Choose a usage profile that matches your travel style, or customize it by adjusting each activity. We'll calculate your estimated data needs and recommend a plan that makes sense for your trip.

Frequently asked questions

eSIM is a digital SIM that lets you activate a cellular plan without a physical SIM card. Most modern smartphones support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, and many other devices. Check your device settings to see if eSIM is available.
After purchasing an eSIM plan, you'll receive a QR code or installation code via email. On your phone, go to Settings > Cellular/Mobile Data > Add Cellular Plan (or Add eSIM), then scan the QR code or enter the installation code. The eSIM will be installed and activated automatically.
If you see signal but can't access the internet, check: 1) Mobile data is enabled for the eSIM line, 2) Data roaming is turned on, 3) APN settings are configured correctly (check the activation email for APN details), 4) Try toggling airplane mode on and off, 5) Restart your device.
Go to Settings > Cellular/Mobile Data > select your eSIM line > Data Roaming, and switch it on. On Android: Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network > select your eSIM > Roaming, and enable it.
If you experience issues with your eSIM, contact our support team immediately. We'll help troubleshoot the problem. If the issue cannot be resolved and it's within our refund policy timeframe, we'll process a refund. Check our refund policy for specific terms and conditions.
Our calculator provides estimates based on average usage patterns. Actual data consumption may vary depending on video quality, app settings, network conditions, and individual usage habits. We recommend adding a 20-30% buffer to your calculated needs for safety.
Yes, most modern phones support dual SIM functionality, allowing you to use multiple eSIMs simultaneously. You can switch between them in your device settings. However, only one line can be active for data at a time unless your device supports dual data.
If you run out of data, you can purchase a top-up or additional data package through your account. Some plans also offer automatic top-up options. We recommend monitoring your usage and purchasing extra data before you run out to avoid service interruption.
