Overview

Up to 400 buskers claim their pitches on Peel Street, the “Boulevard of Dreams”, when the Toyota 55th Tamworth Country Music Festival takes over Tamworth, New South Wales, from Friday 15 to Sunday 24 January 2027 1 2 5. There is no gate and no festival pass, so the street, the Toyota FanZone and 10 nights of concerts in Toyota Park from 7pm cost nothing 1 3. More than 700 artists are expected in 2027 2. The Toyota 55th Golden Guitar Awards fill TRECC at 7:30pm on Saturday 23 January 2027, and the Toyota Best of the Buskers Championships close the festival in Toyota Park the next evening 3 4.

Why does an ungated Peel Street festival run through the TCMF app?

No gate and no festival pass exist at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, so the programme of thousands of free and ticketed shows over 10 days lives in the TCMF app and the What's On feed 1. One login works on both the website and the app, and favourites saved on one show up on the other 1. The printed Official Guide can be pre-purchased from July and is posted out in mid-December 1. Destination NSW puts the crowd at more than 300,000 people across Tamworth 2, and the shows are spread through pubs, clubs and hotels around the city, so the app is the one place that lists them together 1.

Can a print-at-home Golden Guitar Awards ticket be shown on a phone at TRECC?

Entertainment Venues issues print-at-home tickets for the Toyota 55th Golden Guitar Awards, and the door at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre (TRECC) opens 30 minutes before the 7:30pm start on Saturday 23 January 2027 4. Tickets carry no refunds or exchanges, so a ticket saved as a PDF and a screenshot protects a seat that cost between AUD 90 and AUD 175 4. Inside, photos are phone only and without flash 4.

How do Festival Express riders check the town and rural timetables?

The Festival Express map, town timetable and rural timetable are published online by the organiser, and the buses are run by Tamworth Buslines, whose hotline is 02 6762 3999 8. An adult day fare costs AUD 5 for 2027, and every bus takes both cash and card 8. During the festival the ticket office sits at Shop 32 Centrepoint, main entrance on Brisbane Street, and drivers also sell tickets on board 8.

Why is the Toyota FanZone corner at Peel and Fitzroy streets the usual meeting point?

The Toyota FanZone sits at the corner of Peel and Fitzroy streets, plays from about 9am daily and hosts 150+ artists over the 10 days, so it is the one fixed landmark in the middle of the busking strip 6. The Quiet Space at 24 Fitzroy Street sits directly behind the FanZone stage and opens 10am to 4pm, which makes the corner a practical regroup point for families 7. Artist signings and merchandise also run at the FanZone through the festival, which keeps the corner busy from morning to evening 6.

Why must Riverside Camping Grounds campers register a mobile number?

The Design RV Riverside Camping Grounds sit on a flood zone beside the Peel River, and Entertainment Venues asks every buyer to record a mobile number with their name so that campers can be reached 12. The organiser also points visitors to the Hazards Near Me app, which pushes notifications when floods, storms or fires change 10. In January 2026 more than 1,800 camp spots were booked there across the 10 days 14.

The complete guide

Why does the Tamworth Country Music Festival still follow the old Australia Day long weekend?

The Toyota 55th Tamworth Country Music Festival runs over 10 days, from Friday 15 to Sunday 24 January 2027, across Tamworth in New South Wales 1 2. The Toyota 55th Golden Guitar Awards fall on the final Saturday, 23 January 2027, at TRECC from 7:30pm 2 4. The festival keeps the same shape every year: a Friday start, a Sunday finish 10 days later, and the awards on the second Saturday 1 4.

The late-January timing is a leftover from an older calendar. The organiser explains that the festival was first timed around the Australia Day long weekend, which was the third weekend in January, with a Monday holiday whatever date the 26th fell on 1. Country music activity already happened over that weekend from the late 1960s, so the Golden Guitars were held then too, and the awards have run since 1973 1 4. When the government of the day moved Australia Day to a fixed 26 January sometime in the 1980s, the festival had already grown into a 10-day event, and the organiser says nowhere else in the year can fit 10 days 1.

The next editions are already set: Friday 14 to Sunday 23 January 2028, and Friday 19 to Sunday 28 January 2029 1.

Key moments in the 2027 calendar:

  • Friday 15 January 2027: Opening Night Concert in Toyota Park from 7pm, ending with fireworks 3
  • Sunday 17 January 2027: 47th Toyota Star Maker Grand Final at Toyota Park from 7pm 16
  • Tuesday 19 January 2027: Jarrad Wrigley, the 46th Toyota Star Maker, launches his Star Maker EP at The Longyard Hotel 16
  • Saturday 23 January 2027: Hands of Fame handprints in the morning, Golden Guitar Awards at 7:30pm 11 4
  • Sunday 24 January 2027: Toyota Best of the Buskers Championships in Toyota Park 3

Tip: The first ticketed shows for 2027, including the Golden Guitar Awards, went on sale on Thursday 9 July 2026, so by January seats have been on sale for six months 2.

How are Golden Guitar Awards seats at TRECC priced?

A seat at the Toyota 55th Golden Guitar Awards costs AUD 90 to AUD 175, while Peel Street, the Toyota FanZone and the Toyota Park concerts need no ticket at all 1 4.

The 2027 Golden Guitars prices at TRECC on Saturday 23 January 2027 are 4:

  • Gold+: AUD 175, or AUD 165 per person for groups of 10 or more 4
  • Gold: AUD 155, or AUD 145 per person for groups of 10 or more 4
  • Silver: AUD 115, or AUD 110 per person for groups of 10 or more 4
  • Bronze restricted view: AUD 90, where camera equipment, technical equipment or technical staff may block part of the view 4

A transaction fee of AUD 2.85 online, AUD 3.85 in person or AUD 4.85 by phone is added, and there are no refunds or exchanges 4. Children must be at least 5 years old, there is no lap sitting, and photos are phone only, without flash 4. The performance runs about 3 hours with no interval, starting at 7:30pm, and doors open 30 minutes earlier 4.

Other ticketed shows are sold by the venue groups that stage them. The organiser points buyers to Wests Entertainment Group, The Pub Group and Entertainment Venues 1. In 2027 Lee Kernaghan and Troy Cassar-Daley headline TRECC, Tamworth's largest indoor venue; Fanny Lumsden and John Butler play the Town Hall; and The Wolfe Brothers return to The Longyard after five Golden Guitar wins at the 2026 awards 2.

Entertainment Venues shows can be booked by phone on (02) 6767 5200, or on +61 2 6767 5300 from overseas, and in person at the Capitol Theatre box office on Level 1 of Centrepoint Plaza, Peel Street 1.

Tip: The Tooheys Country Pub inside Toyota Park is a separate paid ticket with strictly limited numbers; it is the only licensed area in the park and sits under cover 3.

Can the 09:35 train from Sydney Central reach Tamworth before Toyota Park starts at 7pm?

Yes. Transport for NSW lists the 09:35 from Sydney Central as the fastest trip at 6 hours 30 minutes, reaching Tamworth at 16:05, which leaves almost 3 hours before Toyota Park opens at 7pm 13 3. The slower 07:09 departure is a train-and-coach journey of 11 hours 47 minutes 13. The organiser confirms daily rail services from Sydney and from Armidale 9. During the festival, artists play Platform Sessions on the Tamworth station platform each day as the train rolls in 11.

By road. Tamworth sits 405 km north-west of Sydney, 280 km from Newcastle and 570 km south of Brisbane 9. The organiser asks drivers to install the Hazards Near Me and Live Traffic apps and to check them regularly on the way 9.

By air. Daily flights reach Tamworth, with QantasLink and Link Airways named by the organiser 9.

Once in town. Leave the car: in 2027 Peel Street between Brisbane Street and Bourke Street stays closed to traffic for all 10 days so the Fringe Zone can expand 14. The Festival Express bus links venues and rural stops, and all buses have low, wheelchair-friendly entry 8. The 2027 fares are 8:

  • Adult: AUD 5 a day, or AUD 40 for an unlimited festival wristband 8
  • Children aged 4 to 16: AUD 2.50 a day, or AUD 25 for a wristband 8
  • Pensioners and seniors: AUD 2.50 a day, or AUD 25 for a red wristband 8

Bus tickets are sold at the ticket office at Shop 32 Centrepoint, main entrance on Brisbane Street, or by the driver 8.

Tip: The CBD taxi rank is on Fitzroy Street outside Peel House, near Tamworth Town Hall; Tamworth Taxis answers on (02) 6766 1111 and 13CABS on 132 227 8.

What plays on each of the 10 free Toyota Park nights in Bicentennial Park?

For the festival, Bicentennial Park becomes Toyota Park, with 10 nights of free entertainment from 7pm on an outdoor stage; the audience sits on camp chairs, picnic rugs or the grass 3. The 2027 programme is 3:

  • Friday 15 January 2027: Opening Night Concert with Max Jackson and Jarrad Wrigley, ending with fireworks 3
  • Saturday 16 January 2027: Girls Night Out, hosted by Amber Lawrence 3
  • Sunday 17 January 2027: 47th Toyota Star Maker Grand Final with the Top 10 finalists 3 16
  • Monday 18 January 2027: Americana in the Park, hosted by Billie-Jo Porter 3
  • Tuesday 19 January 2027: Bluegrass Hoedown, new to Toyota Park this year 3
  • Wednesday 20 January 2027: Back to the Bush with the 2026 Tamworth Bush Ballad Awards winners 3
  • Thursday 21 January 2027: iHeartCountry LIVE in the Park, hosted by Justin Thomson 3
  • Friday 22 January 2027: Friday Night Lights album launch night, hosted by Cheryl Brown 3
  • Saturday 23 January 2027: Country Party in the Park with Kirsty-Lee Akers and Will Day 3
  • Sunday 24 January 2027: Toyota Best of the Buskers Championships, hosted by Emma Bailey 3

Country Gospel In The Park also fills Toyota Park on Sunday 24 January 2027 from 9am to 10:30am 3.

Crowds peak on the first Friday. Around 8,000 people watched the 2026 Opening Night Concert, up from around 6,000 in 2025, and similar crowds packed the park night after night 14. Every Toyota Park concert is streamed each night on the TCMF Facebook page and on the Watch Live page of the festival website 1. That matters on Saturday 23 January 2027, when Country Party in the Park clashes with the 7:30pm Golden Guitar Awards at TRECC 3 4.

Where can families escape the midday heat between Peel Street busking sets?

The Tamworth Airport climate table gives a January mean maximum of 32.9°C, a mean minimum of 17.6°C and 60.2 mm of rain over about 6.7 rain days 19. The organiser warns that temperatures often pass 30 degrees in January and advises loose clothing, staying out of the sun and being indoors in the hottest part of the day 10. Refill stations for water bottles are set up around the festival 10.

Quiet Space, 24 Fitzroy Street. Tamworth Regional Council runs a quiet space and sensory room in the UNE Building, directly behind the Toyota FanZone stage, open 10am to 4pm every day of the festival 7. It is fully air-conditioned and has accessible toilets, a parents room with changing facilities and wheelchair charging 7.

Family Zone, Kable Avenue. The rides on Kable Avenue open from 10am to 2pm and from 5pm to 10pm, weather permitting, so they close between 2pm and 5pm 1 7. Coupons cost AUD 2 each or AUD 55 for 30 7. The Mega Drop takes 6 coupons, the Dodgems and Ferris Wheel take 5, and the kids rides take 4 7.

Indoor shows. The Town Hall, the Capitol Theatre and TRECC stage ticketed shows indoors, and the What's On feed and the TCMF app have a Family Friendly filter for all-ages events 1 2.

Fringe Zone, lower Peel Street. Street performers, line dance classes and emerging acts fill Peel Street between Brisbane and Bourke streets from 10am to 8pm, Friday 15 to Sunday 24 January 2027, so the cooler evening hours still have free shows 7.

The organiser's packing list is short 1:

  • A hat, or a Toyota hat from the Toyota Zone, open 10am to 4pm daily 1
  • Sunscreen 1
  • A fold-out chair or picnic rug for outdoor concerts 1
  • A driver's licence or photo ID, since registered clubs and hotels in NSW check proof of age 1

What does a Design RV Riverside Camping Grounds pass cover beside the Peel River?

The Design RV Riverside Camping Grounds sit next to the Peel River, a few minutes' walk from the Tamworth CBD, and a pass covers one vehicle's entry for a set block of dates 12. In January 2026 more than 1,800 camp spots were booked there across the 10 days, more than the year before 14.

The 2027 site fees, per vehicle and including GST, are 12:

  • Countdown and Festival: AUD 380 from Friday 8 to Sunday 24 January 2027 12
  • Festival: AUD 270 from Thursday 14 to Sunday 24 January 2027 12
  • Final weekend: AUD 100 from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 January 2027 12

A transaction fee of AUD 2.85 online, AUD 3.85 in person or AUD 4.85 by phone also applies, and there is no daily rate 12. Sites are not numbered or pre-allocated, all are unpowered, and small, quiet generators are allowed 12. There are no barbecues, but toilets, showers, taps and daily canteens are spread across the grounds, and pets are welcome on a leash 12.

Gates. The Carter Street Gate opens at midday on Friday 8 January 2027 and then stays open 24 hours 12. The Plain Street Gate opens during the day, until 6pm before the festival and until 9pm during it 12. The gates take credit card or Eftpos only, with no cash and no refunds 12.

Risks. The grounds are on a flood zone, and there is no security on site, so valuables stay with their owners at all times 12.

Rooms. For motel or hotel beds close to the dates, the organiser points visitors to the Tamworth Visitor Information Centre on (02) 6767 5300 1.

Tip: The Final weekend pass at AUD 100 matches the Friday Night Lights, Golden Guitar and busking-final nights from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 January 2027 12 3 4.

Which Boulevard of Dreams tasks depend on a working phone?

Every busking site on Peel Street, known as the Boulevard of Dreams, displays a QR code, and festival-goers scan it to vote; those votes help buskers towards the Toyota Busking Championships and decide the Festival Fan Favourite Award 5. Destination NSW puts the festival crowd at more than 300,000 people 2, and the pre-approved busking spots lie on Peel Street and Fitzroy Street 5.

Phone tasks at the Tamworth Country Music Festival:

  • Voting: a QR code at each busking site, with up to 400 buskers taking part 5
  • Programme: the TCMF app, with one login shared with the website and saved favourites 1
  • Tickets: print-at-home Golden Guitar Awards tickets for TRECC 4
  • Safety: Hazards Near Me push notifications for floods, storms and fires 10
  • Buses: the Festival Express map, town timetable and rural timetable 8
  • Payments: card on Festival Express buses and card or Eftpos only at the camping gates 8 12
  • Live streams: nightly Toyota Park concerts on the TCMF Facebook page 1

The organiser also suggests the Live Traffic app for the 405 km drive from Sydney 9. Campers at the riverside grounds give a mobile number when they book, so a charged phone is part of camping safety 12. Coverage details for an Australian data plan are on the Australia eSIM page.

When calls fail in the crowd, the Toyota FanZone corner at Peel and Fitzroy streets, playing from about 9am daily, is the easiest fixed meeting point, and the Quiet Space behind its stage at 24 Fitzroy Street opens 10am to 4pm 6 7.

Where do Roll of Renown legends and Hands of Fame inductees leave their mark?

Away from Peel Street, Tamworth marks its country music honours with boulders, star plaques, handprints and a 12 m guitar 11 18 20.

Roll of Renown, TRECC. The Australasian Country Music Roll of Renown was started by Radio 2TM in 1976, with Tex Morton the first name placed on it 18. 56 legends have joined so far, and each inductee's plaque sits on a boulder in front of TRECC 18. Adam Harvey was elevated at the 2026 Golden Guitar Awards, and his plaque was unveiled in the TRECC forecourt at 11am the following morning 18.

Galaxy of Stars, TRECC forecourt. Each Galaxy of Stars inductee receives a star-shaped plaque set into the TRECC forecourt 11. Tamworth Regional Council launched the honour in 2000, with Slim Dusty the first recipient, and for 2027 fans chose from five finalists, with the winner announced in January during the festival 17.

Hands of Fame, Kable Avenue. The Hands of Fame cornerstone at Kable Avenue and Brisbane Street is free and open all year 11. On the second Saturday morning of the festival, Saturday 23 January 2027, new inductees press their handprints in a public presentation 11.

Big Golden Guitar. The 12 m Big Golden Guitar was unveiled by Slim Dusty in 1988 and is modelled on the Golden Guitar trophies, which is why it has no strings 20. The Tamworth Visitor Information Centre beside it sells festival merchandise, and the organiser recommends it for a family selfie 1 7.

AELEC rodeo. Away from the CBD, the ABCRA National Finals Rodeo returns to the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC) in 2027, with more than 3,000 competitors and upwards of 10,000 spectators expected 2.

Tip: The Hands of Fame ceremony and the Golden Guitar Awards fall on the same day, Saturday 23 January 2027, so the TRECC forecourt plaques fit between the morning handprints and the 7:30pm awards 11 4.

How do Peel Street buskers reach the Toyota Best of the Buskers final?

Busking at the festival is free, but every busker must register first for identification, safety and insurance, and registration covers them under Tamworth Regional Council's insurance 5. Keith Urban, Troy Cassar-Daley, Kasey Chambers and Beccy Cole all spent time busking on Peel Street 5.

For 2027 a new booking process replaces deals with individual shops: from September 2026 registered buskers receive a timeslot booking form, and from October 2026 the Busking Coordinator assigns pre-approved spots on Peel Street and Fitzroy Street 5. Requests are judged on available locations and times, volume and retailer preferences 5.

Throughout the festival, judges watch buskers across the precinct and pick 10 finalists for the Toyota Busking Championships in Toyota Park on the final weekend 5. In 2027 that final is the Toyota Best of the Buskers Championships on Sunday 24 January 2027, hosted by Emma Bailey 3.

The 2027 prize packages are 5:

  • 1st place: AUD 2,000 cash, a guitar valued up to AUD 3,000, and paid gigs at the 2028 festival 5
  • 2nd place: AUD 1,500 cash and a AUD 500 gig at The Courthouse Hotel in 2028 5
  • 3rd place: AUD 1,000 cash and a AUD 500 gig at The Courthouse Hotel in 2028 5
  • Remaining top 10 finalists: AUD 200 cash and a AUD 100 Capitol Music voucher 5
  • Festival Fan Favourite: AUD 1,000 cash and a AUD 1,500 recording package, decided by QR-code votes 5

The 2026 champion, Jessica Holbrok, returns to the Toyota Park stage on Friday 15 January 2027 as part of the Opening Night Concert 3.
