When Is Jamaica Carnival in 2027?
The Jamaica Carnival 2027 Road March is on Sunday 4 April 2027 in Kingston, according to Xodus Carnival, which has opened costume sales for that date 1. The other bands have not published their 2027 calendars, so fetes and J'ouvert dates are still expected rather than fixed.
The date moves every year because Carnival Sunday is pinned to Easter. Jamaica Carnival is held mainly in Kingston about a week after Easter, which usually puts it in March or April 8. Easter Sunday falls on 28 March 2027 20, so the Road March lands exactly one week later. The pattern is easy to check against recent years:
- 2024: Carnival Sunday on 7 April 8
- 2025: Carnival Sunday on 27 April 8
- 2026: Carnival Sunday on 12 April 2
- 2027: Road March on Sunday 4 April, announced by Xodus 1
The season is longer than one day. In 2025 the Jamaica Tourist Board listed a cooler fete on 12 April, an Afro Soca Jam on 20 April, the I Love Soca cooler festival on 21 April, the iLLUMINATE night party on 23 April and Bacchanal J'ouvert on 25 April, all before the 27 April Road March 3. Expect the 2027 equivalents to fall in late March and the first days of April, starting around Easter weekend.
There have been exceptions. The 2020 edition was postponed to October and then cancelled, 2021 was cancelled, and the 2022 Road March moved to 10 July 8. Those were pandemic years; since 2023 the post-Easter Sunday has held 8.
Tip: Book flights to land in Kingston by the Thursday before the Road March. Costume distribution, J'ouvert and the biggest fetes are usually packed into the final four days, and arriving on Saturday means missing most of them.
Jamaica Carnival started as a Kingston street event on 22 April 1990, when Byron Lee, often called the father of Jamaica Carnival, launched it in the Constant Spring Road and Half-Way-Tree area 8. Today the date is announced band by band, so follow the band you plan to join rather than waiting for a single national calendar.
