Not all iPhone SE models support eSIM. Only the 2nd and 3rd Generation iPhone SE models support eSIM, the 1st Generation does not.
The iPhone SE (1st Generation), released in 2016, doesn’t have eSIM capability and only uses a physical SIM card.
The iPhone SE (2nd Generation), released in 2020, does support eSIM along with a physical nano-SIM card.
This allows you to use two phone numbers or data plans at the same time, which is useful for travelers or those needing separate work and personal lines. The iPhone SE (3rd Generation), launched in 2022, supports eSIM and can use two eSIMs at once without a physical SIM card.
How do I check if my iPhone SE supports eSIM?
To check if your iPhone SE supports eSIM, first identify your model. The 2nd and 3rd generation iPhone SE models support eSIM, but the 1st generation does not.
Follow these steps:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap General.
- Select About.
- Look for the Model Number.
Compare your model number to these:
- 3rd generation: A2595 (US, Canada, Puerto Rico), A2782 (Japan), A2784 (Russia), A2785 (China), A2783 (other regions).
- 2nd generation: A2275 (Canada, US), A2298 (China), A2296 (other regions).
If your model number isn’t listed, your iPhone SE likely doesn’t support eSIM.
You can also check in Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data).
If you see an option to “Add eSIM” or “Add Cellular Plan,” your device supports eSIM.
If there’s a 15-digit IMEI number under Available SIM or Digital SIM, that also confirms eSIM capability.
How to activate eSIM on iPhone SE?
To activate eSIM on your iPhone SE, follow these steps:
